the thirtieth of april, a sunday

I'll tell you this: If The West Wing doesn't take home a boatload of Emmys this year, something is very wrong indeed. The show itself is fabulous, and everyone on the show is fabulous, except Moira Kelly, and they're getting rid of her. But John Spencer in particular... he's just wonderful. (In case you're wondering why I'm talking about this now, I just today watched Wednesday's episode, since I was working on my paper while it was on.) This show has replaced The Practice as my #2 fave show... after that strange little show about aliens.

Speaking of which, I am so unhappy with myself I could spit.

See, almost every time the show is on I go to my friend Samantha's house to watch it. I set up my little VCR, and usually everything goes swimmingly.

Two weeks ago, when the episode Gillian Anderson wrote and directed was on, I came home to find an hour's worth of the public television station's auction, because instead of channel 5, which is Fox, I programmed the VCR to tape channel 4, PBS.

Yahoo. But I decided I could live without it until it came on in repeats.

So this week, being Duchovny's episode, I was all extra-special careful in programming, and checked it three times.

But then, instead of turning the VCR off, which you have to do for the timer to kick in, I accidentally hit the TV/VCR button, which has the same effect on the television, switching it to what's actually on channel 3 instead of whatever channel is on the VCR, if you're following me.

Dumbass. I called Samantha wailing, and she promised to deliver me her copy so I can take my VCR to my parents' house and dupe it.

The episode was, of course, hilarious. It took a little while to get to the Shandling/Leoni part, which was only the last quarter of the show, but it was damn funny. My favorite part was after Leoni asked Scully to show her how to run in heels; while Mulder and Shandling were discussing which way Mulder prefers to hang, you see Scully running back and forth in the background.

The bubble bath scene was priceless, too.

New journal! I swear, I find the best journals from my referrals. This one is called The Girl With the Glue, written by Jen, a 9th grade English teacher in Alabama. She's been journaling for just about a month. The stories of her students are priceless, she writes a lot about what she dreams at night, which I love, and she just generally has a great anecdotal style. Go read her.

I'd like to make an announcement: That lawyer guy who spent a nice sunny Friday afternoon shooting people in Pittsburgh did not go to my law school. We looked it up.

If you're trying to decide between two things -- say a gray suit or a blue one -- flip a coin. If it comes up gray, and you have the least inclination to make it two out of three, go with the blue.
